Το κέρατο και το κόκαλο είναι υλικά µε µεγάλη ιστορία. ∆ίνουν πιο «γεµάτο» ήχο όταν οι χάντρες χτυπούν µεταξύ τους και έχουν φυσικές νερά και αποχρώσεις. Συνήθως επιλέγονται για πιο «βαριά» κλασικά κοµπολόγια.

Τα ξύλινα κοµπολόγια είναι πιο ελαφριά και χαµηλών τόνων. Το έβενο προσφέρει βαθύ σκούρο χρώµα και κοµψότητα, ενώ το ξύλο ελιάς είναι πιο ζεστό οπτικά, µε έντονα νερά. Και τα δύο είναι κατάλληλα για καθηµερινή χρήση.
Gemstones
Gemstone beads can add colour and weight. Depending on the stone, the komboloi can feel heavier and more present in the hand.
Gemstones are selected for strength and the ability to be worked into smooth, rounded shapes. Edges are softened so the beads roll comfortably without scratching the cord.
Οι ηµιπολύτιµες πέτρες προσθέτουν έντονο χρώµα και συχνά περισσότερη «παρουσία» στο χέρι. Οι χάντρες δουλεύονται µε τρόπο ώστε να είναι λείες και στρογγυλεµένες, µε προσοχή για να µην πληγώνουν το κορδόνι.
